Gigantopithecus May Have Been Caught On Camera In Kentucky

Sure enough, there are plenty of mysteries in our world, some of which will never be solved. And it’d be a safe wager a few just aren’t meant to be solved, nor are they meant to be understood. Perhaps this is the case with a well-known legend, common throughout many cultures around the world. Depending on where you’re from, you may call it Sasquatch, while others simply call it Bigfoot; referring to the massive foot prints sometimes left behind in the muddy ground. Believers in the existence of these elusive cryptids often point to the impressions as definitive proof the cryptid exists; a creature some venture may be closely related to an extinct genus of ape called Gigantopithecus. Beyond the plaster casts of these footprints; there also exist significant volumes of blurry photographs and shaky videos recording something unknown, lurking just beyond the tree line. Unfortunately, quantity does not always equal quality and in the case of cryptid evidence, many of these photographs and videos purporting to capture Sasquatch lumbering through the woods have been proven hoaxes. As a result, many (both skeptics and believers) have taken the position that newly submitted evidence is presumed a hoax, unless proven otherwise.

In the case of a video captured in 2012, which recorded a creature of unknown origin lurking behind the trees, do we have the real thing or is this just another hoax? The video itself is of good quality, albeit the length is only five seconds. In those five seconds, a humanoid creature is clearly seen walking away from the location of the camera operator.  The creature is ambulating upright and appears covered in dark fur. While it’s difficult to approximate the creature’s height from the video, it does appear to stand anywhere from six to seven feet tall in comparison to the surrounding trees. Curiously, the facial features of this unknown beast closely resemble that of a gorilla, yet it doesn’t move like a gorilla. So, what could it be? While the creature matches countless general descriptions of Sasquatch, there are notable differences. For example, the creature’s skull, legs and stature are very different from most descriptions as this cryptid is more ape-like. Perhaps this is something else entirely; is this in fact the once thought extinct Gigantopithecus?

Unfortunately, as is often the case, there’s very little known about this video, except that it was supposedly shot in a rural area in Kentucky. One thing is for certain; whatever was walking behind the trees in this video wasn’t human. A man (or woman) in a costume would be easily recognizable at that distance, ruling out the possibility that this is a hoax perpetrated by a prankster in a monkey suit. Granted, some clever CGI might have been used instead.

Another possibility is that this creature is neither a Sasquatch or a relative of Gigantopithecus, but rather a reluctant werewolf (or dogman). Certainly the creature doesn’t look like a werewolf strolling through the forest in broad daylight, yet Kentucky legends are filled with strange creatures stalking the farmlands in search of victims. From Old Yellow-Eyes, to the Glendale Monster, this old Native American hunting ground is an overflowing cup of the dark and mysterious, with new legends joining the ancient ones seemingly every year. Could there be something more to those stories we heard adults telling when we were children? There’s something out there just waiting, and that much is for certain. Whether or not this video actually captured it, is another story.
