FOUND ALIVE. Resolved SAR node logged. Official outcome first.

Ty Randolph “Randy” Thurman, 63, was located alive on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after three days overdue in the Coffee Can Saddle / Kelly Mountain backcountry outside Riggins, Idaho County, Idaho.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office as carried by Big Country News, the Idaho County Free Press (sheriff update ~4:55 p.m. Sept. 23), and Dailyfly:

Idaho County deputies found Thurman at approximately 2:20 p.m. while searching west of Kelly Mountain in the Looking Glass Creek drainage. He had minor injuries and was suffering from dehydration.

That is the logged node. Not story-over. Not folklore bait.

Guard heli → 394 Road → Allison Creek → McCall

Sheriff messaging across the three outlets lines up on the medevac chain:

An Idaho Army National Guard helicopter flew Thurman to the 394 Road, where he was reunited with family. He was then moved to the bottom of Allison Creek, met by Riggins Ambulance, and taken to McCall Hospital.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Idaho County Sheriff’s Posse and dog team, Idaho Civil Air Patrol, the Idaho Army National Guard, Thurman’s family and friends, and Riggins Ambulance — and wished him a speedy recovery.

What closed — and what did not invent itself

What sheriff/press establish (as of sources reviewed here):

  • Missing since Sun. Sept. 20 after separating from hiking partner near Coffee Can Saddle / Kelly Mountain.
  • Located ~2:20 p.m. Wed. Sept. 23 west of Kelly Mountain in Looking Glass Creek drainage.
  • Minor injuries + dehydration.
  • Guard heli → 394 Road (family meet) → bottom of Allison Creek → Riggins Ambulance → McCall Hospital.
  • Sheriff update ~4:55 p.m. Sept. 23 (Free Press).

What the public record does not establish (and this desk will not invent):

  • A blow-by-blow trail narrative between separation and locate.
  • Exact unpublished find-grid coordinates.
  • Detailed medical diagnosis beyond minor injuries + dehydration as reported.
  • Any cryptid, paranormal, or conspiracy causation.

Grain of salt on date language: Dailyfly’s lede says “Tuesday afternoon” while the same piece — and Free Press / Big Country — put the locate at ~2:20 p.m. Sept. 23. Sept. 23, 2026 was a Wednesday. Prefer the sheriff clock and the Free Press / Big Country locate stamp.

Protective footer / strong disclaimer

This article summarizes publicly available Idaho County Sheriff’s Office messaging and reputable regional press (Big Country News, Idaho County Free Press, Dailyfly) for news, commentary, literacy, and criticism. It is not a law-enforcement product, medical report, or official search bulletin. Monstrum Athenaeum does not claim that any cryptid, paranormal entity, conspiracy, or nonhuman agent caused Randy Thurman’s overdue status, injuries, or ordeal. This is a found-alive resolution node: official locate, dehydration / minor injuries as reported, and conventional Guard medevac — not evidence of cryptid causation and not a “vanished forever” lore file. Detailed medical condition beyond publicly released minor injuries + dehydration remains with treating clinicians.

Approximate Looking Glass Creek coordinates (45.4413, −116.1079), Coffee Can Saddle (45.4474, −116.0774), and Riggins ZIP 83549 are named public landmark / gateway pins only — not exact find-grid, heli LZ, or hospital coordinates and not an invitation to enter remote backcountry.
