The second creature did something the narrator had not expected. It seemed to wave.
In a later account set in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia, the teller remembers being about fifteen during a winter roughly ten or eleven years before the post. The timing is approximate; the story does not establish a particular month in 2016.
The first sighting, the narrator says, was a huge black cat-like shape on a neighbor’s roof, with yellow eyes that appeared to glow. Around two weeks later, a white and reddish-brown animal resembling a husky appeared in the street. It allegedly stood upright, raised a clawed forelimb, and made what the teller understood as a friendly gesture. A later glimpse from the kitchen window showed the husky-like animal on all fours.
The contrast is the account’s unusual feature. One shape terrified the narrator; the other seemed almost familiar, even reassuring. The story links them through the period in which they appeared, without establishing that they were connected.
There is no photograph accompanying the narrative to settle either identification. What remains is the remembered change in the encounter’s mood: the same streets that had seemed threatening suddenly held an animal the teller believed had acknowledged them.
