Humboldt County Man Says a Trail Camera Caught a 7-Foot Sasquatch — Then He Went Back at Night
A Humboldt County logger claims a Reconyx cam caught a 7-foot Sasquatch at 4:23 a.m., then says he returned that night with IR and it walked to within 15 yards. The footage is credited to a YouTube channel; no name, parcel, or file is confirmed.

Timeline: Squatchable published this account on Sept. 1, 2026 and dates the alleged encounter only to "last month" (August 2026) — no exact event day is given. This summarizes that secondary write-up and the video it names.
Northern California. Old timber. A Reconyx that was supposed to catch elk.
According to a September 1, 2026 write-up on Squatchable.com, a hunter named Jake — eight years on 40 acres about 15 miles northeast of Eureka, small-time logger, six Reconyx cameras on the place — got something his bear-and-lion memory did not have a shelf for.
Pre-dawn. 4:23 a.m. A camera on an old deer trail over a clearing. A massive biped, they say, at least seven feet, dark fur, humanoid in a way that was not human. Three consecutive stills. Forty-seven seconds of standing still. Then it melted into the tree line.
The clearest frame, Jake claims, showed a heavy brow, dark eyes into the lens, and a look he called curious. Almost contemplative.
Monstrum Athenaeum has not independently verified Jake, the acreage, or the footage. Squatchable says the night video — nearly six minutes, they claim — is on the Weekly Terror YouTube channel. The embedded upload is identifiable; that does not establish the authenticity of this account.
This is not a random county
If you know this beat, Humboldt is not a dart throw. This is Bluff Creek country. Jerry Crew's 1958 tracks. The 1967 Patterson–Gimlin walk at a sandbar the whole world has argued about for half a century. Willow Creek still sells the statue.
Dense canopy. Ugly terrain. Water everywhere. A large, shy primate could, in theory, stay lost in that mess for a long time. That sentence has been true as folklore since before most of the cameras existed. It does not authenticate a logger's SD card.
It does explain why a Humboldt trail-cam story hits harder than the same blur from a cul-de-sac.
He was not satisfied with a still
Here is where the tale stops being a trail-cam post and becomes a camp story.
Jake, they say, could not sleep. He packed 60 pounds of gear, hiked a mile back in, and set camp about 100 yards from the photo site. Sony camera. Infrared illuminator. A man who had already seen the face and decided the stills were not enough.
Around 11 p.m., according to the same account, the forest went dead quiet. No insects. No owls. No underbrush. The kind of hush field people treat like a weather warning. Then heavy, deliberate footsteps across the clearing. Then a vocalization they describe as part growl, part whistle, like nothing in the book. Sound from more than one direction, as if it was circling.
Through the IR display: a figure stepping into the open. Same animal, Jake claims. Alive this time. Seven and a half feet. Broad shoulders, narrower waist. Dark brown fur. Movement he says would be a nightmare to fake in a suit.
Five minutes in the center of the clearing. Head turning. Then those eyes, 50 yards out, on his hide.
Then it walked toward him.
Fifteen yards and a dead battery
Thirty yards: brow like a gorilla, nose and lips closer to human, arms long but not cartoon-ape. Twenty yards: head tilt, curiosity. Fifteen yards: a musky, wet-dog, primal smell he says hit every alarm in the body.
Then the camera battery died.
When the backup finally seated, the clearing was empty. No sound of a leave-taking. The kind of vanish that makes skeptics laugh and believers shiver.
The encounter, they say, was not over. At the truck he found fresh prints in the mud — huge, human-like, stride at least four feet. Whatever he met, in this telling, had followed him to the logging road.
Squatchable calls the night video nearly six minutes and, in its own words, "the clearest Sasquatch footage ever recorded," with muscle under fur and a chest that rose and fell. That is a heck of a claim. "Clearest ever" is a phrase this field uses the way restaurants use "world famous." We are not rubber-stamping it.
What we can actually hold
Named first name only. No last name. No parcel. No date more precise than "last month" from a September 1 post. A channel name. A very complete cinematic sequence: stills, insomnia, pack-out, silence, surround-sound vocals, approach to 15 yards, battery death, tracks at the truck.
That sequence is either a field investigator's dream or a writer's outline. Notice how clean the beats are. Notice how the camera dies at the exact moment a face would have to survive a close-up. Notice how the tracks appear where you need them after the tape fails.
Coincidence happens. So does structure.
Possible mundane reads: a person in a well-made costume who knew the camera line; a bear plus adrenaline plus IR smear; a channel package built from a thin still and a lot of narration; a logger who saw something odd at 4:23 and filled in the night because he could not leave it alone.
Possible non-mundane read: a Humboldt Sasquatch looked into a Reconyx, came back after dark, closed to fifteen yards on a man who went looking for it, and left prints at the truck to make sure he understood the follow.
We are not choosing. We are telling you the choice is not as easy as the thumbnail.
How to watch it, if you watch it
Find the Weekly Terror upload Squatchable is pointing at. Watch the stills first, then the IR, and ask whether they are the same body. Ask what happens in the cuts. Ask why a man this close did not keep a second camera living. Compare the gait to known costume work and to the old Bluff Creek walk without pretending 1967 settles 2026.
Do not hike 15 miles northeast of Eureka with a thermal because a blog used the word "Jake." Private timber is private. Closed gates stay closed. If you are actually in danger, you call the sheriff, not a YouTube comment section.
Northern California will still be there tomorrow. So will the hoaxers.
Bottom line
A Humboldt logger claims a 7-foot Sasquatch posed for a Reconyx at 4:23 a.m. and later walked to within 15 yards of his IR hide until the battery quit. Weekly Terror, according to Squatchable, has the package.
Until a last name, a date stamp, and a raw file show up, this is an unresolved trail-cam-plus-night-hunt story from the one county that already owns the most famous walk in the file. Watch the original. Count the coincidences. File it next to the other 2026 camera claims — and do not confuse a six-minute legend with a specimen.
