Skinwalker Ranch S7E9: Smoke, a Homestead That Shouldn't Be Warm, and a Drone That Dies at the Bubble

It is a television experiment on a Utah ranch that will not stop producing instrument tantrums — and a recap that, for once, cares more about a heat signature than a ghost in the smoke.

Horror Press wrote up The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch S7E9, "Up In Smoke," on July 16, 2026. The episode aired July 14. This is a Watch-desk pass: what they say they measured, where it gets sloppy, and why a blinking light on an empty homestead beats a void in a laser grid. History Channel is not a peer-reviewed campaign. Claims below are according to that recap and the broadcast it describes.

The mesa still will not give them the object

Horror Press: Triple A Drilling pushes a fourth borehole. Erik Bard thinks the shallowest mesa anomaly is around 30 feet. They blow past 40. Travis Taylor says it does not make sense. Prior data said an object was there. The bit says otherwise.

Three days later, GPR specialist Dr. Jan Francke returns with a coded-sequence reader built to beat whatever has been jamming him. He has worked in scores of countries and still calls this the most frustrating site he has seen on instruments. Log that. Do not canonize it. Usable data, they claim: an anomaly around 80 feet, and two large "very clearly metallic" hits around 290 feet in Borehole One. If those numbers hold, they should have hit something. They did not.

The honest desk does not need a ship. It needs the next scan to repeat.

Homestead Two: smoke, lasers, a whistle they maybe should not have played

Night shift: Homestead Two, on the edge of the so-called Bubble. Laser grid, smoke, cameras, LiDAR, spectrum analyzers, a GPS puck on the roof, Jim Royston's thermal drone. Travis keys 1.6 GHz. Erik sees it. Travis kills it. Erik loses it. Then both say the signal comes back from the homestead, above the noise floor.

Travis also plays a whistle audio from a Navajo ceremony the team was reportedly asked not to fully film. Horror Press flags that as sour. So do we. Log it. Do not clap.

In the smoke, Travis thinks a "void-thing" moves through the beams. Pete Kelsey's SLAM scan, they say, shows nothing useful. Erik does not look convinced. Leftover smoke loves a laser. Shrug this part.

Homestead Three: the light, the green flicker, the furnace that is not there

The part actually worth a filing.

From the command center, Erik sees a blinking light at Homestead Three — a structure the show has barely used. Nobody from the team or production, Travis says, is over there. Thomas Winterton and Kaleb Bench run it. Nothing. Kaleb thinks he sees a green light. Thomas thinks he sees a flicker in the brush. Jim puts the thermal drone up.

Pete's line, as the recap quotes the floor: "Why is Homestead Three so warm?" It looks like a furnace is on. The building is falling apart. Nothing is inside it.

Next-day review, according to Horror Press: Erik's Meta-Frame shows the blink going solid, then moving west, fast. Jim's first thermal pass: outside ground around 30°F, roof cold, but roughly 60-degree heat leaking through slots in a broken wooden roof. Concrete can bank sun. The recap says the floor is wood. That claim would need temperature logs and construction details to assess.

That is the anomaly worth a follow-up experiment. Not a spaceship. An apparent temperature difference, plus a reported moving light.

The drone vs. the Bubble

Last run of the night: smoke and lasers again, drone flown at the Bubble boundary. Horror Press says the second the aircraft crosses, Jim loses signal. The drone flies itself. On the far side, control comes back. He lands it.

Instrument dropout at a named invisible line is the ranch's oldest party trick. It is also what happens when a cheap link meets interference, distance, or an edit that knows where the beat changes. Both readings fit a lost-signal graphic. The honest move is to replicate it with a logged RSSI trace, or stop talking about a wall.

Grain of salt, ranch-sized

Mundane menu: leftover sun in the wood, a hidden heater or animal, a neighbor light, drone RF fade, smoke voids, metal that is casing, a show that needed a second homestead because the borehole came up empty. Non-mundane menu: the ranch is still throwing 1.6 GHz and heat at empty wood, and the Bubble still eats a control link.

Take the heat table over the void in the smoke. Next instrument, not next adjective. Do not go to the ranch. Private property. A TV pin is not a permit.

Bottom line

S7E9, as recapped, is a failed mesa hit, a maybe-metallic 290-foot pair, a dubious laser-void, a drone that dies at the Bubble, and a dead homestead that blinked and stayed warm after dark. The last item is the one that earns a filing.
