The inventory was less supernatural than the videos: a cape, gloves, costume masks and a black hat.
According to Diario de Pernambuco’s July 3, 2026 report, military police in Xexéu identified a man they said was behind the lobisomem appearances circulating locally. Residents had reported a strange figure in the streets during the early hours. The police response took place on July 1.
Officers said they recovered the costume pieces and took the man to the local station. The newspaper reports that a Termo Circunstanciado de Ocorrência was recorded concerning disturbance of public order and tranquility. Civil police said inquiries were continuing. The report does not establish a later conviction or final outcome.
The town is in Pernambuco’s Zona da Mata Sul. Here the werewolf label belongs to a scare and the police explanation to a costumed person, rather than an unidentified biological creature.
A mask does not make the fear felt before its discovery imaginary. It changes what caused it. A figure moving through a street, followed by a clip on someone else’s screen, can reach a whole neighborhood before anyone asks who is beneath the material.
The costume pieces give this particular story an ordinary mechanism. Their very simplicity is part of the fascination: how little a figure needs, in the right darkness, for an old name to supply the rest.
