Original Athenaeum filing: 30 October 2016 — “Utah Girl’s IPad Records Bigfoot Evidence During Family Road Trip.”

This is a brand-new 2026 archival feature. The October 2016 URL is a historical predecessor. Kids with tablets catch weird roadside shapes. Weird shapes are not body casts.

What the clip claimed

According to the YouTube package posted under the name Jane Everett and covered by Utah outlets (KSL, Fox 13, and cryptid blogs), a family driving toward Provo Municipal Airport had a daughter filming from the back seat with an iPad. The short clip — roughly half a minute — wanders across car interior and sunset scenery before a tall, dark, bipedal silhouette appears at the roadside / cornfield edge and the girl reacts.

Everett’s description energy: driving to the Provo airport, daughter playing with iPad, thinks she caught Bigfoot running into a cornfield — now a believer.

The Athenaeum’s late-October digest stressed the “accidental capture” trope (often treated as more persuasive than staged hunter cams) while flagging that the uploader channel appeared thin — little else posted — so grain of salt. That caution ages well.

The contest context KSL put in the record

KSL’s September 2016 write-up included an editor’s note that matters for archival honesty: the video was created as part of a “Big Foot in Utah Video Scholarship Contest” sponsored by McCoard’s Garden Center in conjunction with their corn maze. That framing does not automatically equal “fake Bigfoot,” but it does mean promotional / contest incentives sat next to the “now I’m a believer” caption. We refuse to bury that.

Local papers and blogs sat on the fence: maybe a farmer, a walker, a costume, a blur. Nobody produced a hair, a footprint cast, or a named zoologist ID in the package we re-checked.

Grain of salt silo

  • Silhouette + moving car + phone/tablet compression = soft evidence
  • Contest sponsorship is a documented press caveat, not optional lore
  • Thin YouTube channel = classic viral-pattern yellow flag
  • “Latest bigfoot footage” language in 2016 is relative timing — archived here, not refreshed as a live Utah County hazard
  • We invent no hoax conviction or confirmation; both would be overclaim

Conspiracy-curious read: maybe something tall really cut across a Provo cornfield and a kid’s iPad was the only camera that mattered. Skeptical read: maybe contest season, corn-maze marketing, and a dark biped-shaped blob did what the internet always does. Both can be typed. The contest note belongs in the file either way.

Archival ethics

Do not stop on airport-approach roads to chase shadows. Do not trespass cornfields. Watch the public clip via outbound links if you must. Leave farmers and air traffic alone.

Accidental cams vs. contest season

Cryptid media loves the “kid didn’t mean to” frame. It feels cleaner than a night-vision hunter show. The Provo iPad clip leaned on that innocence — back-seat filming, shout of surprise, parents allegedly not clocking the figure in the moment. Fair storytelling. Incomplete context without the KSL contest note.

Scholarship contests and corn-maze sponsors are allowed to be fun. Fun still means promotional gravity around a silhouette. Utah already had a run of canyon Bigfoot clips in local memory (Provo Canyon, Payson Canyon talk). Another roadside biped fit the brand. Fitting the brand is not the same as filling a specimen drawer.

This archive refuses present-tense “Bigfoot living in Provo” headlines as current fact. The September 2016 package and the Athenaeum’s 30 October 2016 digest are the dated shelf. Whatever the dark figure was — farmer, walker, costume, or something stranger — stays unverified here.

Bottom line: A September 2016 Provo-airport road-trip iPad clip, amplified online and filed by the Athenaeum on 30 October 2016, claimed a cornfield Bigfoot — with local press noting a scholarship/corn-maze contest frame. This 2026 archive keeps the dates, the salt, and the unpublished farm GPS.
