From time to time, we must heed the call of the great outdoors. There’s something intrinsic, albeit primitive, beckoning us to leave civilization and explore the wild.
While we all feel the calling, how each of us enjoys mother nature is very individual. Some people like to go on hikes while others like to skydive. Others like to fish or hunt, opposed to those who only like leisurely walks in local parks.
Sometimes, though, we get more than we bargained for when we leave the safety of civilization. For a couple of mountain bikers in Bellville, Ontario, Canada, the unexpected is precisely what happened when they ran into big hairy himself, Sasquatch.
Most folks who claim to have seen Sasquatch describe the beast as standing seven to eight feet tall, estimating its weight in excess of four hundred pounds. Surprisingly, these mountain bikers described a creature dwarfing all the previously reported encounters of the massive, elusive cryptid.
Back in June of 1988, almost 30 years ago, two friends decided to tear up trails in the backwoods for an afternoon of motorcycle fun. They raced along the trails, unaware they were being watched from a distance. As they crested the top of one ridge, one of the men had to take a short bio break. There was mud everywhere from all the recent rain in the area, so he asked his partner to hold his bike upright, the kickstand was useless in the mud. He headed to a nearby tree and began to relieve himself. Before he was able to relieve his bladder, his pal started yelling “Hurry up! Come on, we need to leave now!”
He adjusted his situation, and he hurried back to his bike. His friend had a terrified look on his face, transfixed on a point in the distance. As he looked out to where his friend was staring, he saw a huge, shadowy figure standing in a small grove of trees.
The two men claimed the figure stood anywhere from eight to ten feet in height, much larger than any known Sasquatch sighting. Almost instantly, the two were on their bikes. As they tried to speed away, one of the men claimed he felt a tug on his jacket as if the creature was trying to attack him. He soiled himself in terror, but managed to escape otherwise unmolested by whatever the beast was.
As the days past, the two men worked up enough courage and returned to the site, trying to figure out exactly what happened.
As you can tell from their story, their description of what we’ve called the Sasquatch of Bellville proves that there’s a significant variation in both size and temperament with these cryptids. Rest assured, though, the men only escaped harm because the beast allowed them to. Of that, there’s no doubt.
